2. Background

As per IMO regulations the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments - ships must manage their ballast water so that aquatic organisms and pathogens are removed or rendered harmless before the ballast water is released into a new location. This will help prevent the spread of invasive species as well as potentially harmful pathogens. In order to adhere to these regulations, one of the options for shipowners are to retrofit equipment that will comply with the regulations. 3D laser scanning is the most effective method to know the current condition of the vessel and to survey the ship for a retrofit to be carried out.
